About Rockledge: Florida's Oldest Incorporated City in Brevard

Rockledge is the oldest incorporated city in Brevard County, and the name is not a coincidence. The coquina limestone bluff that runs along the Indian River is the only "rock ledge" on Florida's east coast. That bluff is also why homes on Rockledge Drive and US-1 sit close enough to the lagoon that the brackish air is a real variable for anything metal outside your house, including your condenser coil.

ZIP 32955 covers two very different kinds of housing. The east side, from US-1 toward Fiske Boulevard, is where Brevard's postwar growth started. Rockledge Country Club opened in 1924 and is still the oldest golf course in the county. The neighborhoods around it, Country Club Estates and Fairway Estates off Rockledge Drive, are 1950s and 1960s custom ranches on large lots. Levitt Park and Virginia Park, north of Barnes Boulevard, are the Apollo-era bedroom subdivisions built for the space program workforce. Quarter-acre slab ranches, garage-closet air handlers, and ductwork from the Eisenhower administration.

The west side of 32955 is a different era entirely. The Murrell Road corridor west of Fiske Boulevard is 1990s through 2000s infill, with two-story homes, attic air handlers, and long flexible duct runs feeding the upstairs. Kings Grant, Georgetown, and Woodsmere are 1970s through 1980s transitional stock that sits between those two eras. Barnes Boulevard connects them all, four-laned between Fiske and Murrell after a 2018 widening project.

We cover all of it. We are based in Palm Bay, about 30 minutes up I-95 at Exit 195. We already work the Viera and Suntree corridor directly south of Rockledge every week, so Rockledge is not a stretch for us. If you are at the south end of 32955 near the Viera line, we may already be in your neighborhood that morning.

Rachel picks up when you call. No voicemail, no answering service. Wes runs the technicians. We give you the number in writing before anyone touches your equipment. License CAC1823291, NATE-certified, family-owned, fully insured.

One thing we always tell Rockledge homeowners: if your system is over 12 years old and you are getting your third repair in two years, get an honest second opinion before the next repair. We offer free second opinions. We will look at the system and tell you straight whether the repair pencils out or whether you are on borrowed time. We service every major brand regardless of who installed it.

Why Rockledge HVAC Is Its Own Category

A lot of HVAC companies treat all of Brevard County the same. Rockledge is not the same as Palm Bay or Melbourne, and the differences show up in your equipment and your repair bills.

Lagoon-side corrosion on Rockledge Drive and US-1

If your condenser sits east of Fiske Boulevard within a mile or so of the Indian River, the air hitting it carries salt and moisture from the lagoon. Bare aluminum coil fins start to pit and deteriorate faster than they would inland. If your last system only made it five or six years in good shape before the coil started showing corrosion, that is the lagoon, not a defective unit. When we quote a replacement for a home in that corridor, we walk you through the coastal-coated coil option so you can decide if the upfront cost makes sense for your situation.

Apollo-era return-air problems in Levitt Park and Virginia Park

The 1960s ranches near Levitt Parkway and off Fiske Boulevard north of Barnes were built with one central return air grille in the hall. That was fine for the era. Central AC came later, and the existing return opening is almost always too small for a modern system. The result is that the air handler strains to pull enough air through, the system runs inefficiently, and the back bedrooms never quite cool down. We see this every week in Rockledge. It is not a refrigerant problem. Topping off the refrigerant will not fix it. The fix starts with understanding how the air is actually moving through the house.

Attic flex runs in the Murrell Road corridor

Newer two-story homes west of Fiske and along Murrell Road use attic air handlers with long runs of flexible ductwork to the upstairs rooms. Flex duct is fine when it is installed correctly, but it sags, kinks, and develops gaps over time, especially in an attic that reaches 140 degrees in July. When your upstairs is always warmer than your downstairs on a newer system, the odds are good that a duct run is partially collapsed or disconnected somewhere in the attic. That is a solvable problem, and it usually does not require a new system.

The hospital closure and why emergency response matters more now

Orlando Health Rockledge Hospital closed on April 22, 2025. That is the only acute-care facility that was inside the city. The nearest emergency rooms for Rockledge residents are now in Melbourne or Cocoa, adding meaningful time to any medical emergency. For older residents in riverside homes, a no-cool situation in August is not just uncomfortable, it is a health issue. We treat same-day no-cool calls in Rockledge seriously. If you call us with an elderly resident in the house and no air conditioning, tell us that at the start of the call and we will prioritize the dispatch.

Attic insulation in pre-1990 homes

Most Rockledge homes built before 1990 were spec'd with R-19 attic insulation at the time of construction. R-19 was the standard then, but it has also been settling and thinning for 30 to 40 years. A thin insulation layer means your attic heat bleeds through the ceiling into your living space all day long, and your AC runs more than it needs to. We offer blown-in insulation top-offs as a service, not because we upsell everything, but because in pre-1990 Rockledge homes it is one of the most cost-effective things you can do alongside a system tune-up.

Rockledge HVAC Questions We Hear All the Time

My Rockledge Drive condenser is pitted and corroded after only five years. Is that from the lagoon air?

Almost certainly yes. Homes on Rockledge Drive and US-1 sit within a mile of the Indian River Lagoon, and the brackish air off the water is hard on bare aluminum coils. Five to seven years to visible pitting is common in that corridor. When we quote a replacement for a lagoon-side home, we include the option for a coastal-coated condenser coil. It costs more upfront but holds up significantly longer than a standard coil at that distance from the water.

I have a Levitt Park ranch with one central return. The back bedroom is always six degrees warmer. Is that an AC problem or a duct problem?

That is almost always a duct and return-air problem, not the equipment itself. Levitt Park homes were built in the 1960s with one central return in the hall, which worked fine for the window units of the day but is undersized for a modern central system. The system pulls air unevenly, the back rooms get less supply, and the whole thing short-cycles. We can usually trace the root cause in one visit. Sometimes a return-air addition fixes it. Sometimes we find crushed duct runs in the attic that have been there for decades. We will tell you which before we charge you for anything.

With Rockledge Hospital closed, how fast can Florida Air get to a no-cool emergency on a 95-degree afternoon?

We are based in Palm Bay, about 30 minutes up I-95 from Rockledge. We take no-cool calls seriously all year, and we take them even more seriously in summer for older residents who cannot regulate body heat the way younger people can. Orlando Health Rockledge Hospital closed in April 2025, which means EMS response times in the area are longer than they used to be. If you have an elderly family member in a Rockledge Drive or Levitt Park home and the AC goes down on a hot afternoon, call us at 321-599-6220 and tell us it is a heat emergency. We will prioritize it.

I bought a 1980s home in Kings Grant or Georgetown off Barnes Boulevard. What should I expect from the HVAC system?

Kings Grant and Georgetown were built mostly in the 1970s and 1980s, so a home that has not had a system replaced is running equipment well past its expected lifespan. If the original ductwork is still in place, it has likely settled and may have gaps or disconnected sections in the attic. The good news is that homes in that square footage range are straightforward to size for a new system. We can do a free second opinion if you have already gotten a quote and want another set of eyes on the recommendation before you commit.

Do you service all brands in Rockledge, or only brands you install?

We service every major residential brand regardless of who installed it. In Rockledge we see a wide mix: older York and Coleman units in Apollo-era homes, Trane and Carrier in 1990s and 2000s stock, and Goodman and Rheem in various eras. For new installs we work with brands we stand behind and carry parts for. We will tell you what we install and why, and we will not push you toward something you do not need.

My Murrell Road two-story never cools evenly upstairs. The system is only six years old.

Two-story homes in the Murrell Road corridor almost always use an attic air handler with long flexible duct runs to the upstairs rooms. Flex duct that is kinked, undersupported, or too long loses a significant amount of cooling capacity before the air reaches the upstairs registers. This is one of the most common calls we get from newer Rockledge and Viera homes. The fix is usually duct correction or adding a small supplemental unit for the upstairs zone, not replacing the main system. We can tell you which in one visit.
